MOMMY:
Just a quick update because sleep is calling me....Luis went for chemo again this week and he seems to be responding to the treatment ok. The side effects are minimal...a few sore tummies, and he gets angy often. That may or may not be related. His white blood cells, red blood cells and neutrophils were still low. He is still neutropenic. His red blood cells were so low that he got his first blood transfusion. The doctor suggested that could explain his anger. The transfusion has no effect on his neutrophils.
Again, I can't reiterate enough that if you want to help, please donate blood to the Canadian Blood Services in Luis' honour. This won't be his last transfusion, I'm sure of it.
The last two weeks involved three daily shots per week and a daily oral chemo, all given at home. The next two weeks will be a bit lighter and only involve his weekly spinal tap and a couple other chemo drugs given at the hospital. Very few drugs will be given at home so I'm happy. Fewer fights trying to get him to chug it down. Some he takes willingly, but not many.
There are still so many play dates to be had but pink eye has made a reappearance in our house (thankfully, not with Luis), and with Luis being neutropenic, we want to keep him a bubble for now. When the pink eye has cleared, we'll see where Luis is at. Thanks for everyone's understanding :)
The baby should have me up in a few hours so better go.....
I am a strong believer in donating blood , I will spread the word. It is the least I can do.
