Awesomeness.

I see it's been a while since my last post. The kids have been keeping me busy, as usual. Even now, I'm writing this after waking up at 11:30 p.m. with Luis, then 3:30 a.m. with Julien, then Luis wanted to have breakfast at 4:00 a.m. Oh wait, then Julien woke up for real at 5:00 a.m.  Now Luis fell back asleep and Julien is eating breakfast. Where is my peace?!? Yup, just busy as usual here. Awesome.

Anyway, I'm sure everyone is curious as to how Luis is handling this phase of the treatment. The answer is 'surprisingly well'. He has had all three doses of the nasty chemo drug, doxorubicin. He has had occasional sore tummies and sore legs over the past few weeks. These side effects were pretty mild and didn't really impact his energy level. The last three weeks also included two weeks of the steroid dexamethasone (one week on, off, then on). His appetite has sky rocketed again. Just when I thought I had him weaned off of hot dogs, these steroids had him begging for those little doggies. What I am going to say, No? He eats two hot dogs back to back...well almost. I make him eat a few raw vegetables before he can earn the second hot dog. I try to keep his hot dog intake to a minimum. For example, he was asking for a hot dog at 4:30 a.m. this morning. That was a little much.

Yesterday, he seemed overly tired. He was on the couch most of the day and was quiet when he spoke. His energy seemed down. He is getting his blood counts checked tomorrow in Windsor to see that his red blood cells and platelets are at acceptable levels. If not, he would need a transfusion. That's why the low energy yesterday had me worried. The doxorubicin he received will continue to have side effects. So even though he seems ok today, doesn't mean he won't feel horrible tomorrow. That also means that he could still lose the rest of his hair.

Ah well. Got to get back to Julien throwing his breakfast on the floor.
