One day at a time

MOMMY:

One day at a time. That advice has been pitched our way over and over again. And for the most part, that's what I've been doing. Today, I let my mind wander through time. It's a place I don't like. There is too much uncertainty. Health, jobs, relationships, day care, school. It's enough to drive a person crazy.

So let's go back to one day at a time.

Visitors of the day

In the late morning, we were honoured by a visit from an old friend and minister who baptized Luis.  She came bearing a generous gift from the members of the University Community Church. Many thanks to all those who have supported us, including those who may not even know us.

Julien also had a gift for our dear friend. He vomited all over her white pants.  A short time later, he treated me to the same courtesy. You see, today I re-introduced Julien to solid food after the last couple of weeks of chaos. He seemed to like it and eagerly devoured the teaspoons of rice cereal I gave him an hour or so prior. I suppose tomorrow I'll have to thin it out more and perhaps offer less to appease his tiny belly.

We were also surprised by a visit from my Uncle Danny and family. They came, Transformers in hand, to see the little trooper. Luis was napping with Mémé and Julien until the mid-afternoon and they later joined us in the beautiful courtyard.

"Feed me, Seymour"

My boy continued to amaze me with his relentless appetite. After his afternoon nap, Luis asked for popcorn. Prepared for his steroid-fueled cravings, we had all of his favourites on hand. Mémé made a big bowl of popcorn. He was still hungry. He wanted avocado. Then edamome. Then beans. Then cheese. Then salad with croutons. Then carrots. Then a cheese stick. It seemed to be a continuous flow of food until bedtime. And just before bed, Luis asks "Mommy, can I have a snack?" He tried to rationalize how he needed it for the gurgles in his tummy, but it was too late. We already brushed his teeth. Good night sweetie!

  1. How is the weaning going? The solids may help - my son Jack originally would take a bottle on occasion, but around 5 months he started to refuse it. It was still a battle to get the bottle back, but at least once I could get him to eat some solids, I was able to leave him for longer stretches as I would nurse him, drop him off/leave him, and then for his next feeding 2-3 hours later, he would get a feeding of solids, which bought me another couple hours. Not that helpful if someone is going to take him overnight, but at least it was a start. Sending you lots of strength and love!
