Ronald McDonald House...I'm lovin' it!

MOMMY:

Luis is going through intense chemo therapy for the first month (this phase is called "induction"). We are fortunate that Ronald McDonald is sharing his house with us. The hospital has arranged for us to stay at the Ronald McDonald House across the street from the hospital. It has been amazing. For just $10 per day, they provide a beautiful hotel room that accommodates five people, two meals per day, free parking, a huge kitchen with storage space for each guest, stocked fridges and cupboards with ‘help yourself’ items, and free laundry facilities. It really is becoming my home away from home and we are surrounded by kindness.

If you're feeling charitable, swing by a McDonalds this week and donate to their charity. It would definitely be a worthy cause. They really are helping families in need.

Today was filled with surprise visitors and of course, more toys and balloons (non-latex)! For the first time today, Luis was detached from his IV pole. We were even given the go ahead to take Luis outside. In fact, we were told that he might be ready to move into the Ronald McDonald House next week with regular visits to the hospital for blood work and chemo.  With the sun shining, we put Luis in a hat and sunglasses and headed to the House so he could see where we would be staying. He must have been happy to be out of the hospital because he didn't want to go back. Getting him into the fresh air was the best part of our day.

The worst part of the day: Luis vomited a LOT while eating dinner. Thank goodness Daddy had his two hands there to catch some of it. But there was still a lot that missed. It was such a mess. He was so scared that he cried long and hard. His clothing and bedding had to be stripped and he needed a sponge bath. Soon enough, his mood and his tummy were both fine and he was back to watching Transformers and eating diced avocado. It's clear that he's starting to experience side effects from the drugs. I'm not sure what to expect as time goes on.
