MOMMY:
What a wonderful week. We were home. Luis was off most of the drugs for a breather between phases. We had fun. We got back to 'normal'.Yesterday, we planted our vegetable garden a month later than usual. I'm hopeful that we will get some homegrown, organic veggies by the end of the season.
Today was also great. We finally got to visit Luis' day care. When we entered the class room, all the children were eating their snacks. The teacher presented Luis with gifts that he opened while the other kids watched from their seats. One by one, the other children came over as they finished their snacks. Soon, Luis was crowded by excited kids who were pushing and shoving to see Luis and his new toys. It felt like a juvenile version of a celebrity getting chased by the paparazzi. I'm lucky Luis didn't retaliate like Alec Baldwin (ha!), but he got up off the carpet and escaped. I was a little bummed when I heard a child comment on how different his face looks, but Luis didn't hear him, thankfully. Kids are honest, I know.

We also saw Madagascar 3 and went five-pin bolwing. The bowling was a support group night put on by ChildCan, an organization that helps support families dealing with childhood cancer. We met other families who have gone through this. I got the impression that Luis was among the newest in the group at this cancer thing.

By the way, Daddy and I made our decision about the clinical trial (See post on June 9 for more details). Despite the feedback we have received from friends (86% voted yes to the trial), we will not be allowing Luis to participate in the trial. As much as I really want to support further research, I don't want to put Luis through more tests and give him a relatively new drug that has a basket of potential side effects...especially, because we know that the standard treatment protocol works well (over 75% survival rate). Sorry to disappoint, but after a month of weighing it out, I know it's the right decision for us.

What a happy day! Glad to know there are still wonderful moments of sunshine in your lives.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see Luis wearing his new shirt!
Nice to hear you had a good week. I hope things will be 'normal' most of the time.
ReplyDeleteThe clinical trial stuff is hard, I chose not to enter one, since I'd found a medication that worked and I'd have to give it up for 3 months before starting the trial. It's easy to say 'go for it' when I'm not actually the one that has to deal with it.
My prayers are with you. <3
